NECTAR AI:
THE MOST CUSTOMIZABLE
AI COMPANION?
A flat, honest, hands-on review of Nectar AI — AI girlfriends, boyfriends & anime, two distinct roleplay modes, photoreal + anime image generation, and the deepest character customization in the category. Plus a frank look at its credit system.
What Nectar AI actually is
Nectar AI (nectar.ai / trynectar.ai) is an AI-companion platform built around three audiences — AI girlfriends, AI boyfriends, and anime companions. What separates it from the flood of look-alike "AI girlfriend" apps is depth: two genuinely different roleplay modes (Companion for slow-burn relationship play and Fantasy for scenario-driven roleplay), photorealistic and anime image generation, and the most granular character customization we've tested in this category.
It is a polished, fast product with a real personality of its own. The catch — and the reason this review lands at 8.0/10 rather than higher — is the credit system, which can quietly become expensive if you lean on advanced models, memory and image generation. We cover that honestly below, because it's the single most important thing to understand before you pay.
Quick verdict
Best for people who want to build a companion, not just chat with a preset. The customization and Fantasy mode are genuinely strong. Budget for credits and you'll have a great time; ignore them and the monthly cost can surprise you.
The scorecard
Scores reflect hands-on testing in 2026. Pricing & features change frequently — verify on the official site.
Girls · Guys · Anime — three real categories
Unlike apps that bolt a "male" toggle onto a female-first product, Nectar treats all three categories as first-class. Each has its own gallery, art direction and persona library.
AI Girlfriend
The flagship. Deepest persona library, strongest photoreal results, the most customization sliders.
Read the GF guide →AI Boyfriend
A genuinely supported category — not an afterthought. Distinct personas and art direction.
Read the BF guide →Anime AI
Stylised anime companions with their own generation pipeline and aesthetic controls.

Nectar's signature feature is two roleplay modes that change how the model behaves:
Companion mode
- Slow-burn, relationship-style conversation
- Leans on memory and continuity
- Warmer, more grounded tone
- Great for daily check-ins & long arcs
Fantasy mode
- Scenario / roleplay driven
- More adventurous storytelling beats
- Pairs well with image generation
- Burns credits faster on advanced models
Switching modes mid-conversation is smooth, and the two feel meaningfully different — most rivals offer only one personality register.
Customization: the real standout
This is where Nectar earns its reputation. You're not picking from a dozen presets — you're building a character across appearance, personality, voice and backstory, with 300+ combinations across the main sliders. The result actually carries through into chat and image generation, which is rarer than you'd think.
Image & video generation
Nectar generates both photorealistic and anime images of your companion, and offers voice and (more limited) video features. Image quality is strong and stays consistent with your character's look. The honest caveat: generations cost credits, and the best results come from the advanced models — which cost the most. We keep all chrome SFW-leaning and tasteful in this review.
The credit truth (read this before paying)
Your subscription buys a plan; what you actually do burns credits. This is the most misunderstood part of Nectar and the biggest reason to go in with eyes open:
| Action | Typical credit cost |
|---|---|
| Message (standard model) | ~1 credit |
| Message (advanced model) | 2–20 credits |
| Long-term memory | +2 per message |
| Image generation | 5–10 credits |
Why it matters
If you chat heavily on an advanced model with memory on and generate a few images a day, credits deplete much faster than the headline "$9.99/mo" suggests. Plan accordingly — we built a credit calculator so you can estimate your real monthly cost.
